Website Terms of
Use
These Website Terms of Use ("Terms") govern your access to and use of the website at dailyhumanity.org and its sub-domains and services (the "Website"), operated by Daily Humanity Europe, Lda ("Daily Humanity", "we", "us", or "our").
About These Terms
These Website Terms of Use ("Terms") govern your access to and use of the website at dailyhumanity.org and its sub-domains and services (the "Website"), operated by Daily Humanity Europe, Lda ("Daily Humanity", "we", "us", or "our").
By accessing or using the Website, you agree to these Terms. If you do not agree, please do not use the Website.
These Terms should be read together with our Privacy Policy and Cookie Policy.
Scope. These Terms cover use of the Website itself — reading our blog and news, learning about our services, booking calls, submitting requests, and enrolling in open-intake events and programmes. They do not govern bespoke business-to-business services, which are subject to separate agreements, nor do they replace the specific event terms, waivers, and medical declarations that apply when you enrol in training (see Section 6).
Who May Use the Website
The Website is intended for professionals and is not directed at individuals under 18. By using the Website you confirm you are at least 18 years old and able to enter into a binding agreement.
Use of the Website
You may use the Website for lawful purposes only. You agree not to:
- Use the Website in any way that breaches applicable law or regulation
- Attempt to gain unauthorised access to the Website, its servers, or connected systems
- Introduce malicious code, or interfere with the proper functioning or security of the Website
- Scrape, harvest, or systematically extract data or content except as expressly permitted
- Misrepresent your identity or affiliation, or submit false information
- Use the Website to transmit unsolicited or unauthorised advertising
We may suspend or withdraw access to the Website, or to any part of it, where necessary for legal, security, or operational reasons.
Your Information and Account Accuracy
Where you submit information to us — when booking, enrolling, or making a request — you are responsible for ensuring it is accurate, complete, and current. We rely on the information you provide for purposes including bookings, issuing insurance and travel documentation, certificate issuance, and compliance with applicable local laws, as described in our Privacy Policy.
Where required — for example, to issue accomplishment or accreditation certificates, or where local law obliges us — you may be asked to complete an automated identity verification (KYC) check. Provision of accurate information and, where applicable, successful verification may be a condition of completing a booking or receiving a certificate.
Bookings, Enrolment, and Live Availability
5.1 Availability is indicative
The Website may display the number of available places for an event in real time. This information reflects availability at the moment the page loads and may change. Availability shown on the Website does not constitute a guarantee of a place.
5.2 When a booking is confirmed
A place is confirmed only once your payment has been received (for paid events) or your registration has been accepted and confirmed by us (for free events). Until that point, no contract for the event exists between us, and a place may be taken by another participant.
5.3 Free and paid events
We offer both paid and free-of-charge events and programmes, including (without limitation) our signature HEFAT, HEAT, and HEMART programmes; Digital and AI Security training; Risk Assessment and Management programmes for HR and frontier workers; and online events such as discussions, panels, and office hours. Free events remain subject to these Terms, including the conduct rules in Section 8 and our right to cancel or reschedule in Section 7.
Training Enrolment, Risk, and Waivers
Open-intake training and field programmes involve physical activity and inherent risks. Enrolment in such programmes is subject to separate event terms, a participant waiver, and a medical/health declaration, which are presented to you during registration.
You must read and agree to the applicable event terms and waiver before you can proceed to payment or complete a free registration. It is not possible to complete enrolment without doing so. These documents form part of your agreement with us for that event and take precedence over these Terms in respect of the training itself.
Assumption of risk. You acknowledge that field and safety training involves physical activity, simulated scenarios, and inherent risks, and that some risk of injury cannot be eliminated even when training is conducted properly. By enrolling, you accept these inherent risks. You are responsible for your own conduct during training, and we are not liable for injury, loss, or damage arising from your own acts or omissions, your failure to follow instructions, your disregard of safety guidance, or risks inherent in the activity that are not caused by our negligence.
For clarity, nothing in these Terms or in any waiver excludes or limits our liability for death or personal injury caused by our negligence, for fraud, or for any other liability that cannot lawfully be excluded under Portuguese law. The waiver allocates responsibility for inherent risks and participant conduct; it does not, and cannot, waive liability that the law reserves.
Changes, Cancellation, and Refunds
7.1 Cancellation or changes by us
We reserve the right to cancel, reschedule, or change the venue, format, or instructors of an event where reasonably necessary. Where we cancel an event and you have paid, you are entitled to a full refund of the fees you paid for that event. Where we reschedule or change the venue, we will offer you the option to attend the revised event or to receive a full refund. Our liability in these circumstances is limited to the refund of fees paid, to the extent permitted by law.
7.2 Cancellation by you — paid onsite events
For paid open-intake onsite events, you may cancel and receive a refund provided you cancel no later than 30 days before the event start date. Cancellations made less than 30 days before the event are not eligible for a refund as a matter of course, but may be considered by mutual agreement in correspondence (for example, transferring your place to a future event or a substitute participant).
7.3 Online and free events
Cancellation and refund arrangements for online or free events are set out at the point of registration.
7.4 Your statutory rights
Where you book as a consumer, you may have a statutory right of withdrawal under Portuguese and EU consumer law (Decreto-Lei n.º 24/2014 implementing Directive 2011/83/EU). Please note that for the supply of services related to leisure or event activities provided on a specific date or period, the right of withdrawal does not apply where this exemption is lawfully relied upon. Your statutory rights as a consumer are not affected by the commercial cancellation policy above where those rights apply.
Code of Conduct
When attending our events, online or in person, you agree to:
- Follow instructor guidance** — During training you must follow the instructions, guidance, and commands of our trainers and staff at all times. This is essential to participant safety. Additional rules specific to an event may be presented and explained at the start of the event, and form part of these conduct requirements.
- Chatham House Rule** — Unless explicitly stated otherwise for a given event, discussions are held under the Chatham House Rule: participants are free to use the information received, but neither the identity nor the affiliation of any speaker or participant may be revealed.
- Zero-discrimination policy** — We do not tolerate discrimination, harassment, or abusive conduct of any kind. Participants must treat staff, instructors, and other attendees with respect.
We may remove or exclude any participant who breaches these rules, or whose conduct poses a risk to themselves or others, without refund where the breach justifies it.
Recording and Media
Recording of events. Open-enrolment events may be recorded on video and audio for legal and operational purposes, including safety documentation, incident records, training debrief and analysis, and the protection of our legitimate interests. By attending, you acknowledge that such recording may take place. Recordings are handled in accordance with our Privacy Policy. Where recordings are intended for promotional or public use, we will rely on a separate consent or media release as required by law.
Third-party licensed media. Some images and video appearing on the Website or in our materials are used under licence from third parties, including Getty Images. Such content remains the property of its respective rights holders and is subject to the applicable licence terms. You may not copy, extract, or reuse third-party licensed media from the Website.
Payments, VAT, and Currency
9.1 Payment providers
Payments for paid events are processed through Mollie or Stripe, depending on the event and your country of residence. Payment is handled directly by these providers; we do not store your full payment card details. By making a payment you also agree to the relevant provider's terms.
9.2 VAT and OSS
Prices are stated inclusive or exclusive of VAT as indicated at the point of sale. VAT is applied in accordance with Portuguese and EEA legislation. For certain cross-border services to consumers within the EU, VAT may be accounted for under the One-Stop Shop (OSS) scheme. The applicable VAT treatment will be shown before you complete your booking.
9.3 Disputes and refunds
Payments, disputes, and refunds are handled in accordance with Portuguese legislation applicable to services, and the cancellation and refund terms in Section 7.

Bespoke, tailored, or contracted business-to-business services — including custom training programmes, consulting, audits, and institutional engagements — are not governed by these Terms. They are subject to separate written agreements between Daily Humanity and the client.

To the fullest extent permitted by law, we exclude implied warranties in connection with the Website. This does not affect any rights you have that cannot be excluded under applicable law.
Limitation of Liability
To the fullest extent permitted by Portuguese law, we will not be liable for any indirect or consequential loss, or for any loss of profit, revenue, data, or goodwill, arising from your use of the Website.
Nothing in these Terms limits or excludes our liability for:
- Death or personal injury caused by our negligence
- Fraud or fraudulent misrepresentation
- Any liability that cannot be excluded or limited under applicable law
Liability arising from your participation in training is addressed in the separate event terms and waiver referred to in Section 6.
Force Majeure
We are not responsible for any failure or delay in performing our obligations where this is caused by circumstances beyond our reasonable control, including but not limited to armed conflict, civil unrest, natural disasters, epidemics, strikes, failure of utilities or telecommunications, or governmental action.
Changes to These Terms
We may update these Terms from time to time to reflect changes in our services or legal obligations. The current version is always available on the Website, and the effective date is shown at the top. Your continued use of the Website after changes take effect constitutes acceptance of the updated Terms.
Governing Law and Jurisdiction
These Terms are governed by the laws of Portugal. The courts of the district of Lisbon (including Oeiras) shall have jurisdiction over any dispute, save that, where you use the Website as a consumer, you retain the protection of mandatory provisions and the right to bring proceedings in the courts of your country of residence as provided by applicable EU law.
